The world is really small once you figure out how to get there.
About twenty years ago, my wife and I were early in our careers, recently married and with no children spent a lot of money on a one-week trip to Paris and London. We stayed in a 3-star hotel in Paris and flew economy on United with an awful layover in Chicago that kept us at O’Hare overnight. We wondered how we’d ever afford to do it regularly.
Eleven years later we finally made it back to Paris, with these two kids on a nearly free flight.
Around 2010, I started buying social media ads for the company I worked for. I didn't have a corporate credit card so I used a personal card. Fortunately, I realized what an opportunity I had and quickly swapped to a Hilton Amex.
We cashed in four years worth of points and as Hilton Diamond members enjoyed a suite with four balconies in Hawaii with an extra room for my parents. Nine nights - completely free. But again, we got burned by airfare and spent $3,000 to get there.
At this point, I was on a mission.
Since 2015 we’ve been travelling regularly on miles and points and have been able to enjoy great international and domestic trips. Even if it’s Disney World we barely pay for our accommodations.
My friends and co-workers think we’ve won the lottery, but all we’ve done is spend smartly. We strategically capitalize on points and miles so we always have a stockpile. The number of questions I get and the looks of disbelief and confusion prompted me to start Southern Points Club. I’d love to share my passion with you, whether it's teaching you how to capitalize on your business and travel spending to grow points and rewards or just helping you plan a trip of a lifetime.
